On a quiet evening in January 2019, gunshots echoed through Madina, Accra, ending the life of a brave journalist: Ahmed Hussein-Suale. His death was not only a tragedy for his family and colleagues but a stark reminder of the risks faced by those who dare to uncover the truth. At WAJSIC, Ahmed’s story continues to inspire our mission — and his memory remains at the heart of everything we do.
Ahmed was more than a reporter; he was a fearless investigator dedicated to exposing corruption and injustice. Working alongside Anas Aremeyaw Anas and the Tiger Eye PI team, Ahmed entered dangerous spaces others feared, driven by a simple but powerful belief: truth matters.
His meticulous work helped reveal deep-rooted corruption in institutions that touch everyday lives — from sports to government. He understood the risk but refused to look away.
On that tragic night, two bullets to the chest and another to the neck silenced Ahmed’s voice — but not his message. The attackers wanted to send a warning to journalists, activists, and whistleblowers: speaking out comes at a cost.
Instead, Ahmed’s death became a rallying call. His sacrifice fueled the founding of WAJSIC, transforming grief into collective resolve to protect others walking the same dangerous path.
Through WAJSIC’s work, Ahmed’s legacy continues to shape the future:
Journalists now find shelter and safety instead of silence.
Whistleblowers can access legal aid and psychosocial support.
Activists threatened for their work receive protection.
Ahmed’s courage reminds us why this mission matters. He stood for justice, and in his name, we strive to ensure others can keep standing too.
Ahmed was a colleague, a brother, and a friend. His laughter, dedication, and quiet determination are remembered not just through words, but through action. Every truth-teller we help is a testament to the fire he lit — a fire that fear and violence failed to extinguish.
Remembering Ahmed isn’t about mourning alone. It is about continuing what he started: defending the truth, protecting those who reveal it, and ensuring no journalist or whistleblower ever feels alone.
At WAJSIC, Ahmed Hussein-Suale remains not just part of our past, but a guiding light for our future.
