ACCRA, Ghana – A three-day training on investigative journalism and safety concluded in Accra on May 14, 2026, for residents supported by The Whistleblowers, Activists and Journalists Safety International Center (WAJSIC). The workshop was supported by the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana and the Open Society Foundation (OSF).

The training brought together participants from Ghana and several Francophone countries, both in person and online. In addition to residents present in Accra, several investigative journalists previously hosted by WAJSIC actively participated virtually throughout the sessions, contributing to discussions and sharing experiences from their respective contexts.

Sessions were facilitated by Edward Adeti, the 2024 Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Journalist of the Year, who guided participants through investigative reporting methods, ethical standards, and personal safety practices.

Participants explored the principles of investigative journalism, with emphasis on accountability, public interest reporting, source protection, and security awareness. The exchanges also highlighted the importance of ethical standards and collaboration among journalists working in challenging environments.

The workshop provided an opportunity for journalists to strengthen professional networks and discuss common challenges affecting investigative reporting across the region. WAJSIC representatives reaffirmed the importance of investigative journalism in promoting transparency and accountability while stressing the need for stronger protection mechanisms for media professionals.

The training concluded with a call for continued collaboration, professionalism, and ethical reporting in support of press freedom and public interest journalism.
